Principal's Message

Dear Prospective Parent,

Jennifer Szallai, PrincipalThank you for making Eastland Performance Academy (EPA) the choice to serve your child's educational needs!

EPA will be entering its third year of operation this fall and offers instruction to students in grades K-7. Our school is unique in the fact that we offer an extended day program. Our students attend class every day from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Not only are the school's hours accommodating to parents who work daytime hours, there are also some huge academic advantages for students of EPA. Other advantages include a low (18:1) student to teacher ratio in every classroom. This allows the teacher to perform more individual and small group instruction with the class. EPA students receive over 1200 hours of instruction each year. Most schools offer the state minimum of 910 instructional hours. Additionally, all teachers are licensed by the State of Ohio. When you factor in these key elements, I strongly feel that our community school and our program are among the best in Franklin County. Our rigorous curriculum encompasses the five core areas of proficiency: Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Citizenship. EPA offers 2 hours of Language Arts, including Reading, Writing and Spelling, 90 minutes of Math, and approximately 60 minutes each of Science and Social Studies/Citizenship every day. The semester fees are $30 a semester or $60 for the entire year.

In additional to our strong academic program, EPA students receive approximately 1 hour of fitness on a daily basis. Our fitness program offers professional sports instruction in soccer, tennis and martial arts, better known as our “Big Three.” Additionally, students will be exposed to other sports, physical fitness and sports psychology. EPA has a certified martial arts instructor who comes in twice a week to teach students Character Education (self-discipline, respect, team work, etc.), as well as self-defense skills. The most important goal of our fitness program is to promote the importance of life-long health and fitness. Studies show a correlation between physical fitness and academic achievement. Students focus more clearly and use higher-level thinking skills needed for mastery learning in the fitness program, and more importantly, in the classroom.

We are still hosting informational meetings scheduled for July 14th and 28th as well as August 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th. The meetings are held at the school from 6-8 p.m.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at (614) 314-6301. Again, thanks you for letting us educate your child to the highest potential at Eastland Performance Academy. We look forward to starting the school year on Tuesday, August 31, 2010.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Szallai, Principal
